Mens Cuff Links - A Touch of Class
April 14th, 2006FORZIERI cuff links are some of the most exqusite and well made Italian cuff links to be had.
Cuff Links: A History of Style and Elegance
Starting in the Seventeenth Century, men desired something more elegant for their shirts other than ribbon to hold their shirt cuffs together.
Men started to use chains that were attached to the end of silver or gold buttons.
The chains were threaded through the holes of their shirt cuffs to keep them together. As a result, the first cuff link was born!
Over time, cufflinks continued to develop and became a much more sophisticated detail of a man’s wardrobe, especially when wearing a tuxedo or formal attire.
With so many varieties of precious metals, gem stones, fabrics, styles and designs to choose from, the cufflink became the new, well-dressed man’s statement of elegance.
The beginning of the Industrial Revolution brought on the high production of low-cost cufflinks.
This produced a greater variety of cufflinks to the masses. The chain was replaced with a rod and a fastener and an easy-to-close clip.
Shirt manufacturers, keen on selling a larger quantity of higher priced formal shirts caught on to the cuff link popularity and expanded their lines of dress shirts to include cufflink-ready attire.Sales were booming and men flaunted their individual personalities by sporting their new look with cufflinks and matching stud sets.
During the Nineteenth Century a lot of businessmen of varying classes started wearing cufflinks for more casual wear.
Some even went fishing or hunting with their lucky theme based cufflinks and stud sets.
Prices came down and cuff links were now affordable to the average middle-class gentleman.
In the later part of the Twentieth Century, the cufflinks industry was experiencing a low period because shirt manufacturers began mass-producing tuxedo and dress shirts with buttons sewn on the shirts.
Large jewelry companies like Birks, Tiffany and Cartier did not get discouraged by the new trend. Even big designer clothing lables got into producing designer cufflinks, realizing cuff links and studs sets are here to stay.
Cufflinks have grown into a very popular fashion statement for both men and women alike.
Today, cufflinks can be found in a huge variety of shapes and styles for all types of occasions and dress.
